What can you use the Nikon L-Plate for?

The L-plate can be used to mount your camera on a tripod. The plate is a more stable attachment than an ordinary quick release plate. Using the L-plate you can also easily and quickly switch from landscape to portrait mode without shifting the viewpoint.
